Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Falls Short Against Ranked Coolidge

On Friday, Roosevelt faced Coolidge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Roosevelt Roughriders took a 66-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coolidge Colts. While the Roughriders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Colts 20-14 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Roosevelt saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabriel Hudgens went 10 for 16 on his way to 24 points and three steals. What's more, Hudgens also racked up three rebounds, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Ke'Mari Pointer was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Coolidge, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Roosevelt will be playing in front of their home fans against Ballou at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Coolidge, they will venture away from home to face off against Banneker at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jason Afeni and Quintin Cooper.
