Volleyball Recap: Lawrence Free State Firebirds vs. Manhattan Indians
Lawrence Free State was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell just short of the Manhattan Indians by a score of 2-1. The Firebirds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September.
Lawrence Free State actually scored more points across those three sets (69-64), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 14-25, 25-21.
Despite the defeat, Lawrence Free State had strong showings from Karsen Chapman, who had 17 digs, and Taylor Stucker, who had seven digs and two aces. That's the most aces Stucker has posted in her last four matches.
Even though they lost, Lawrence Free State was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manhattan only served three.
Manhattan can attribute much of their success to Janie Hilgers, who had 15 digs.
