Baseball Recap: Torres Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Torres had no problem doing just that on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Caruthers Blue Raiders a 7-0 shutout. The Toros not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 10-2).

Matthew Escoto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Torres is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-17 otherwise. Escoto was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jordan Galindo was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amani Sua, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

Torres kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Torres and bumps their season record up to 10-17. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Caruthers, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-18.

Looking ahead, Torres will take on Roosevelt at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Caruthers does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
