Flag Football Recap: El Toro Takes a Loss

Despite a strong season so far, El Toro has seen their luck take a bit of a downturn recently. They fell 24-12 to the Huntington Beach Oilers on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Oilers are ranked third).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Huntington Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Roxie Shaia, who threw for 355 yards and four TDs. Shaia has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last six times she's played. Huntington Beach's leading receiver Taylor Savage was Shaia's top target yet again, picking up 110 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

El Toro's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Huntington Beach, their victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-1.

Looking ahead, El Toro will face off against Mission Viejo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Chargers 12.1, the Diablos 12.7) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Huntington Beach, they have already played their next game, a 40-12 win against Fountain Valley on the 13th.
