Preview: Argonia Red Raiders vs. Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans
Argonia has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Cedar Vale/Dexter Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Argonia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Argonia, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-53 loss to the Raiders. While losing is never fun, Argonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Raiders are ranked 123rd).
Despite their loss, Argonia saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Filippo Leonardi, who scored 20 points along with two steals and two blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Dalton Morrison, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Cedar Vale/Dexter beat the Wildcats 50-41 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Cedar Vale/Dexter.
Argonia's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Cedar Vale/Dexter, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Argonia might still be hurting after the 56-30 defeat they got from the Spartans when the teams last played back in February of 2020. Thankfully for Argonia, Devin Catlin (who scored 24 points along with two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
