Preview: Onalaska Wildcats vs. Anderson-Shiro Fighting Owls
Onalaska is 2-8 against Anderson-Shiro since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Onalaska Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Anderson-Shiro Fighting Owls at 5:00 p.m. Onalaska will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 899th, while Anderson-Shiro is ranked 319th).
Last Friday, Onalaska came up short against New Waverly and fell 53-46. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Onalaska in their matchups with New Waverly: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Onalaska had strong showings from Mary Joy Cariaga, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Shaylan Linear, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Faith Tyerman was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Anderson-Shiro gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They blew past Shepherd 79-45 on the road. Anderson-Shiro's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Onalaska's loss dropped their record down to 15-12. As for Anderson-Shiro, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-4.
Onalaska was taken down by Anderson-Shiro 65-29 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Onalaska avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
