Basketball Game Preview: South Wake Sabres vs. Chatham HomeSchool Thunder

The South Wake Sabres will venture away from home to challenge the Chatham HomeSchool Thunder at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. South Wake is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

South Wake is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Cary Christian: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that South Wake blew Cary Christian out of the water with a 73-28 final score. The Sabres have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 24 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Rebekah Hartzell, who went 7 of 12 en route to 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 29 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Emma Crissman, who went 6 of 12 en route to 13 points and four steals.

South Wake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Chatham HomeSchool entered their tilt with Faith Christian on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 50-31 victory over the Eagles. Given the Thunder's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Eagles are ranked 594th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chatham HomeSchool has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for South Wake, they pushed their record up to 18-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Everything came up roses for South Wake against Chatham HomeSchool in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 61-28 victory. In that game, South Wake amassed a halftime lead of 32-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
