Basketball Recap: Sawyer Epps' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Timberlake Christian over Southwest Virginia Academy

Timberlake Christian lost against Southwest Virginia Academy back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The game between the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes and the Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors didn't end well, with the Timberlake Christian Tornadoes falling 76-59. The Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Timberlake Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sawyer Epps, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 19 boards. Those 19 boards gave Epps a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Dowd, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and five assists.

Timberlake Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Southwest Virginia Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timberlake Christian will venture away from home to square off against Christian Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southwest Virginia Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lynchburg HomeSchool at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
