Softball Game Preview: Poston Butte Broncos vs. Combs Coyotes

For the second straight game, Poston Butte will face off against Combs. Poston Butte will welcome Combs at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Poston Butte knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Combs likes a good challenge.

On Tuesday, Poston Butte got the win against Combs by a conclusive 17-2. Considering the Broncos have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brooklyn Trejo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Trejo was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Kimberly Westover was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with five RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Barrera, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Poston Butte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in seven consecutive contests.

Poston Butte is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. Combs' loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
