Softball Game Preview: Foothill Tech Dragons vs. Bishop Diego Cardinals

After both having extra time off, the Foothill Tech Dragons and the Bishop Diego Cardinals will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Foothill Tech has given up an average of 9.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Foothill Tech's last matchup with Santa Clara could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest last Thursday. Foothill Tech came up short against Santa Clara, falling 12-1. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Dragons couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Bishop Diego brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They blew past Valley Christian Academy 23-7 last Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won four games by 14 runs or more so far this season.

Anna Fittipaldi made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keke Flores, who scored four runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Tara Gregson, who scored two runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Bishop Diego always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

The win snapped Bishop Diego's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record. As for Foothill Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Foothill Tech might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Bishop Diego in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Foothill Tech avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
