Basketball Game Preview: Volunteer Falcons vs. Greeneville Greene Devils

The Volunteer Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Greeneville Greene Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Thursday, Volunteer had to suffer through a 63-36 loss at the hands of Grainger. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 251st, while the Grizzlies are ranked 104th).

Meanwhile, Greeneville entered their tilt with Grainger on Friday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They enjoyed a cozy 63-48 victory over the Grizzlies.

Volunteer better keep an eye on Maria Lyde. She was instrumental in Greeneville's win, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Lyde has become a key player for Greeneville: the team is 10-2 when she posts at least eight boards, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Abby Adkins, who posted ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Greeneville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Greeneville pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Volunteer, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season.

Volunteer couldn't quite finish off Greeneville in their previous matchup back in January and fell 41-38. Can Volunteer avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
