Baseball Recap: Milton Triumphs

Milton gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Sun Prairie East Cardinals 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Hawks.

Milton got a great performance from Nathan Birkhimer as he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. What's more, Birkhimer posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four matches.

At the plate, Milton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Schultz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Schultz a new career-high.

Milton's victory bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Sun Prairie East, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 16-6 record.

Milton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-1 win against Watertown on the 24th. As for Sun Prairie East, they will host Janesville Craig at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
