Basketball Recap: West Iredell Takes a Loss

West Iredell fought the good fight in their overtime contest against St. Stephens on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the St. Stephens Indians by a score of 87-85. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (72), the Warriors still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, West Iredell still got an impressive performance from Jordan Patterson, who went 16 of 23 on his way to 42 points and seven rebounds. The matchup was Patterson's 18th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Phillip Maxey, who went 5 for 10 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, West Iredell was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Stephens only racked up 12 assists.

It was another big night for Noah Vanbeurden, who shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 43 points and nine boards for St. Stephens. The dominant performance gave Vanbeurden a new career-high in points. Jachavis Sherrill was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

West Iredell dropped their record down to 9-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for St. Stephens, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Iredell will head out to face off against Foard at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in West Iredell's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for St. Stephens, they will head out on the road to square off against North Iredell at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Stephens is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season.
