Basketball Recap: Monument Valley Cougars vs. Pinnacle Panthers
The Monument Valley Cougars were the 72-67 winner over the Pinnacle Panthers when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Monument Valley received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 80-65 to the Panthers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), Monument Valley still had to take the loss.
Monument Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Melias Cly, who scored 27 points. Joshua Hicks was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Cole Barton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pinnacle, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. Barton is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Dominick Vigil, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Monument Valley's defeat was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Pinnacle, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monument Valley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Pirates at 1:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Green River will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak. As for Pinnacle, they will head out on the road to take on the Buckaroo at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Utah (Monticello is ranked 129th, while the Panthers are ranked 128th).
