Softball Recap: Trinity Lutheran's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Trinity Lutheran). They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Scottsburg Warriors and Warriorettes on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Addie Burcham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Trinity Lutheran let Clark Branham and Brooklyn Whipker run wild. Branham went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Whipker went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three runs gave Branham a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marissa Baker, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 3-11. As for Scottsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-15.

Looking ahead, Trinity Lutheran will head out to take on Hauser at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Jets have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Scottsburg, they will head out on the road to face off against South Ripley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
