Baseball Recap: Elko Triumphs

Elko hadn't done well against Spring Creek recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Elko walked away with a 5-1 win over Spring Creek. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-0 on Friday.

Armando Acosta and Travis Monett made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Acosta tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Monett struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Acosta scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Monett went 2-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, Ethan Kraintz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Elko: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 6-7 otherwise.

The victory made it two in a row for Elko and bumps their season record up to 9-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Spring Creek, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Elko will have a chance to go back-to-back against Spring Creek: the pair will be back at it again later today.
