Basketball Game Preview: Azusa Aztecs vs. Duarte Falcons

Azusa is 2-8 against Duarte since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Azusa Aztecs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Duarte Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Azusa is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season.

Azusa will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Nogales, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Azusa came out on top against Nogales by a score of 54-41 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Aztecs.

It was another big night for Adam Sanchez, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Noah Garcia, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Azusa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Duarte played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 69-48 to Rio Hondo Prep. The Falcons were down 64-32 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Duarte's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Azusa, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Azusa beat Duarte 42-35 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will Azusa repeat their success, or does Duarte have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
