Softball Recap: Laguna Hills Hawks vs. Buena Park Coyotes
Laguna Hills extended their losing streak to 12 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They lost 10-0 to the Buena Park Coyotes. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on April 9th.
Hannah Russell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits.
As for Buena Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.4 runs.
On Buena Park's side, Mia Gonzalez was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gonzalez has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Phillips, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Layla Hinojos was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
