Baseball Game Preview: Brevard HEAT Firehawks vs. Palm Bay Pirates

The Brevard HEAT Firehawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Palm Bay Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Brevard HEAT was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They skirted past Calvary Chapel Academy 9-8. The game was the first time the Firehawks have beaten the Eagles on their field since March 6, 2023.

Anthony Kusky was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-6.

Kusky wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Treskovich Jr, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. Another was Braden Harmon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Brevard HEAT kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Palm Bay waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the War Eagles.

The team relied heavily on Miguel Martinez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaymen Myer, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Palm Bay's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Brevard HEAT, their record is now 3-9.

Brevard HEAT might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Palm Bay in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Brevard HEAT avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
