Basketball Preview: Oakwood Eagles vs. Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders
Oakwood is 0-3 against the Crusaders since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Oakwood Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Harrells Christian Academy Crusaders at 6:45 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Oakwood has struggled recently with 29 losses in a row, while the Crusaders will arrive with seven straight wins.
Last Thursday, Oakwood had to suffer through a rough 79-30 loss at the hands of the Eagles. While losing is never fun, Oakwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 669th, while the Eagles are ranked 52nd).
In what's become a running theme this season, Harrells Christian Academy gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past Kerr-Vance Academy 68-27 on the road. Harrells Christian Academy pushed the score to 62-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans cut but never quite recovered from.
Oakwood's loss was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Harrells Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-10 record this season.
Oakwood was dealt a bruising 76-12 loss at the hands of the Crusaders in their previous matchup on Tuesday. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Oakwood was down 51-2.
