The Waupun Warriors will challenge the Appleton West Terrors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Waupun has 13 straight victories, Appleton West has 21 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, Waupun got the win against Pewaukee by a conclusive 8-1. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Addison Braun spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Amelia Jones was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Buwalda, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Waupun hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pewaukee struck out 11 times.
Meanwhile, Appleton West fell victim to Manitowoc Lincoln and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Ships, falling 8-0.
Appleton West also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Hattie Moscinski gave up five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.
Appleton West's loss dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Waupun, their win bumped their record up to 22-2.
Appleton West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Waupun has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Appleton West, though, as they've been averaging 10.9 hits. Given Waupun's sizable advantage in that area, the Terrors will need to find a way to close that gap.
