Baseball Recap: Zimmerman Thunder vs. Monticello Magic
Zimmerman had lost seven straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it eight. They lost 13-1 to the Monticello Magic. The Thunder were not able to make up for their defeat to the Magic from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.
Zimmerman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Beurmann, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was Beurmann's first of the season.
As for Monticello, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.
On Monticello's side, Koen Schlangen looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave Schlangen a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Easton Peters was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Holthaus, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Zimmerman will host Orono at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Monticello, they are taking a road trip to square off against Chisago Lakes Area at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
