Softball Recap: Hartsville Finds Playoff Glory Versus May River

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Hartsville had no problem doing just that on Monday. They came out on top against the May River Sharks by a score of 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Red Foxes in their matchups with the Sharks: they've now won three in a row.

Hartsville got a great performance from Allie Bailey as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Bailey has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hartsville let Carter Shumate and Myah Harvey run wild. Shumate went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Harvey went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Shumate has posted since back in April.

Hartsville's victory bumped their record up to 23-5. As for May River, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8.

Looking ahead, Hartsville will challenge South Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Foxes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. May River does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
