Preview: West Laurens Raiders vs. Perry Panthers
The West Laurens Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Perry Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Laurens is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Last Friday, West Laurens lost to Howard at home by a decisive 35-21 margin.
Despite the defeat, West Laurens had strong showings from Ty Cummings, who rushed for 137 yards, and Johnny Williams, who picked up 163 receiving yards. Williams' longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Perry's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 31-22 to Spalding.
Perry's loss came about despite a quality game from Ahmad Gordon, who rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Gordon hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for four straight games.
West Laurens' loss dropped their record down to 2-7, while Perry's bumped their own down to the opposite: 7-2.
West Laurens was taken down by Perry 32-0 in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Thankfully for West Laurens, Armar Gordon, jr. (who threw for 197 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
