Recap: Oak Ridge War Eagles vs. Grand Oaks Grizzlies
The Oak Ridge War Eagles lost against the Grand Oaks Grizzlies back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Oak Ridge took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grand Oaks. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oak Ridge in their matchups with Grand Oaks: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Oak Ridge saw an underclassman step up: Harley Washington dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chioma (treasure) Emeh, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Oak Ridge were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grand Oaks only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Bree Riley was her usual excellent self, scoring 34 points along with six steals and five rebounds for Grand Oaks. The match was Riley's 21st in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Avery Campbell, who scored a points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Oak Ridge's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 10-9. As for Grand Oaks, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-12.
Oak Ridge will be home for the holidays to greet Cleveland at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Cleveland is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Grand Oaks, they will head out on the road to face off against New Caney at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. New Caney will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1060th, while Grand Oaks is ranked 493rd).
