Baseball Recap: James Monroe Comes Up Short

James Monroe had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it nine. They fell just short of Maggie Walker by a score of 5-4. If the Yellow Jackets were looking for revenge after losing 15-5 to Maggie Walker when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

John Schaffer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Schaffer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Thomas Castellarin was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. Johnathan Hough also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Maggie Walker, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 14th.

On Maggie Walker's side, Quinn Redwine was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Redwine has posted since back in April. Lewis Dunn was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Looking ahead, James Monroe will face off against Eastern View at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cyclones' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Yellow Jackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Maggie Walker, they will square off against Deep Run at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maggie Walker's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
