Baseball Recap: La Villa Has No Trouble Against Monte Alto

La Villa won the last time they faced Monte Alto and things went their way on Friday too. The La Villa Cardinals were the clear victor by a 12-4 margin over the Monte Alto Blue Devil. Considering the Cardinals have won three contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Robert Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gonzalez was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Maximus Mata was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Jae Rivera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

La Villa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for La Villa and bumps their season record up to 4-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs over those games. As for Monte Alto, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, La Villa will welcome Kaufer at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Monte Alto will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Progreso at 10:00 a.m. on March 15th.
