Basketball Preview: Portageville Bulldogs vs. Kelly Hawks
The Portageville Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Kelly Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Portageville had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-50 win over Caruthersville.
In what's become a running theme this season, Kelly gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Scott County Central with a sharp 76-51 win. Given Kelly's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while the Braves are ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Portageville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Kelly, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4.
Portageville was able to grind out a solid victory over the Hawks in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 41-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portageville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
