New Hanover gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Whiteville Wolfpack. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-12.

Maddie Sawyer paced New Hanover's offense, picking up nine kills. Sawyer got some help from Maille Smith and her 26 assists. Smith was also solid from the service line: she led the team with seven aces.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Hanover will head out to take on New Bern at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Whiteville, they will venture away from home to challenge North Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
