Basketball Game Preview: Point Loma Pointers vs. Madison Warhawks

Point Loma hasn't had much luck against Madison recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Point Loma Pointers will host the Madison Warhawks at 7:30 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Grant Stewart and Runnar(Rj) Miller.

Point Loma will head into Tuesday's match out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They took a blow against Mira Mesa, falling 82-40. While losing is never fun, the Pointers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while the Marauders are ranked 110th).

Meanwhile, Madison had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They snuck past the Vikings with a 57-52 victory.

Madison's win came from a few key players Point Loma will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Miller, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Eli Stevens, who went 7 for 12 en route to 18 points and six rebounds.

Madison has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Point Loma, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-3.
