Basketball Recap: Durango Extends Winning Streak to Four

Durango won the last time they faced Canon City and things went their way on Thursday too. The Durango Demons strolled past the Canon City Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 50-31. Given the Demons' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Tigers are ranked 233rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Canon City's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Eric Chavez, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds, and Brehner Jackson, who had seven points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Jackson a new career-high in rebounds (four). Noah Pavlicek was another key player, putting up two points and three steals.

The victory (which was Durango's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. As for Canon City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Durango wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 60-48 loss against Pueblo East on the 10th. As for Canon City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-54 defeat against Cheyenne Mountain on the 10th.
