The result came thanks to Jacobie Balo's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bishop Rosecrans' win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Perdue, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Perdue has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, Berne Union has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging three runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Saturday. They lost 13-1 to Teays Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rockets have suffered since May 7, 2024.
Bishop Rosecrans pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Berne Union, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bishop Rosecrans has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Berne Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bishop Rosecrans skirted past Berne Union 3-1 in their previous meeting on Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bishops since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
