Basketball Recap: Parkdale's Run of Five Straight Victories Now Over

If Parkdale was riding high fresh off their 65-8 takedown of Bladensburg last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The matchup between the Parkdale Panthers and the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cougars didn't end well, with the Parkdale Panthers falling 64-46. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this game were averaging 25.67 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Parkdale still got an impressive performance from Layla Burton, who posted 23 points and four steals. The contest was Burton's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lundyn Dozier, who had eight points.

Even though they lost, Parkdale smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Our Lady of Mount Carmel to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylah King, who earned 17 points. Another player making a difference was Kiersten Rurka, who put up 14 points.

With the defeat, Parkdale broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-1. As for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Parkdale will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Flowers at 7:15 p.m. on January 7th. Parkdale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.8 points per game this season. As for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-32 victory against Western on the 28th.
