Recap: Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles vs. Crossroads Christian Colts
Even though the Crossroads Christian Colts scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, the Cape Fear Christian Academy Eagles still came out on top. Cape Fear Christian Academy took their contest against Crossroads Christian 66-57. The win was all the more spectacular given Cape Fear Christian Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Crossroads Christian is ranked 98th).
Zeke Brock continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 31 points along with four steals. The contest was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jakson Cullen, who scored 15 points.
Crossroads Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ben Gladieux, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds. Gladieux scored a full 26.3% of Crossroads Christian's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chris Bell, who scored 14 points along with five steals.
Even though they lost, Crossroads Christian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Fear Christian Academy only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Cape Fear Christian Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Crossroads Christian, their loss ended a 20-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-1.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Lee Christian the next time they take the court. Cape Fear Christian Academy will head out to face Lee Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, while Crossroads Christian will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
