Basketball Recap: Southern Indians vs. Memorial Red Devils
Southern saw some tournament action on Friday. They were beaten by the Memorial Red Devils 81-49. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 738th, while the Red Devils are ranked 343rd).
Josue Rodriguez was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 34 points and 11 rebounds for Memorial. That's the most points Rodriguez has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Teyon Harris Jr., who dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 boards.
Southern's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Memorial, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.
Southern does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Memorial, they will be taking part in a tournament against Columbiana at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matches -- so hopefully Columbiana likes a good challenge.
