Recap: John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles vs. Aquinas Knights
The John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles came tearing into Wednesday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 55-34 margin over Aquinas. Given John F. Kennedy Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Aquinas is ranked 574th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ava Darney continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Marina Sanders, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Despite the loss, Aquinas still got an impressive performance from Paris Everett, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three blocks. Everett is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Janya Jeter was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.
Even though they lost, Aquinas were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John F. Kennedy Catholic only pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.
John F. Kennedy Catholic's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for Aquinas, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. John F. Kennedy Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face Canton Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on December 18th. As for Aquinas, they will challenge Barberton at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
