Basketball Recap: Hubbertville Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Tracee Cowan and Kane Rushing

While it was all tied up 29-29 at halftime, Hubbertville was not quite Sumiton Christian's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They took a 76-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sumiton Christian Eagles.

Despite the defeat, Hubbertville had strong showings from Kane Rushing, who went 9 of 20 en route to 20 points and seven boards, and Tracee Cowan, who posted 21 points and five rebounds. The game was Rushing's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaize Wakefield, who had nine points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Hubbertville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Hubbertville's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-3. As for Sumiton Christian, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

The future could be bright for both Hubbertville and Sumiton Christian: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Hubbertville will try to hand Lamar County their fourth-straight defeat when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Sumiton Christian will look to extend Winston County's three-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
