Baseball Recap: Seeger Victorious

Seeger let Covington stack six runs on them in the first inning on Monday but luckily Seeger prevailed anyway. The Patriots came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 11-8. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Macyn Hughes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off 15 hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

In other batting news, Seeger got a big performance out of Peyton Grimmett, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Grimmett has become a key player for the Patriots: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaydon Brewbaker, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Seeger's record is now 6-8. As for Covington, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-6.

Seeger will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Trojans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
