Baseball Recap: Payette Has No Trouble Against Mccall-Donnelly

Payette never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the McCall-Donnelly Vandals as they made off with a 23-0 victory. That looming 23-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pirates yet this season.

Jake Penfold made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Penfold was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Payette's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Payette let Jayden Barrera and Jahzyon Sylva run wild. Barrera got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Sylva got on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Payette is undefeated when Barrera posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Joshua Rodriguez, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Payette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Payette's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for McCall-Donnelly, they are on a 27-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

As of now, neither Payette nor the Vandals have any future games scheduled.
