Basketball Recap: Licking Heights' Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Licking Heights entered their tilt with Zanesville on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They enjoyed a cozy 63-46 victory over the Zanesville Blue Devils. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-40 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Zanesville still got an impressive performance from Mikey Johnson, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kelby Martin, who posted 11 points.

Licking Heights has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Zanesville, they moved to 8-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Licking Heights will head out to take on Watkins Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. As for Zanesville, they are taking a road trip to challenge Johnstown-Monroe at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Johnstown-Monroe has won four straight at home, while Zanesville won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
