Preview: Loyola Blakefield Dons vs. Indian Creek Eagles

The Loyola Blakefield Dons will be playing at home against the Indian Creek Eagles at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Loyola Blakefield has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 454 points over their last seven matches.

Last Monday, Loyola Blakefield faced the Cougars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Loyola Blakefield fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 69-66. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Loyola Blakefield has suffered since December 6, 2023.

J'lin Brown put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 24 points. Jesse Legree was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

Meanwhile, Indian Creek's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight defeat. They fell to Gerstell Academy 63-58. While losing is never fun, Indian Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while the are ranked 35th).

Despite the defeat, Indian Creek saw an underclassman step up: Kyle Harvin scored 19 points. Harvin is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Evans, who scored 13 points.

Loyola Blakefield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 16-10 record this season. As for Indian Creek, they dropped their record down to 7-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Loyola Blakefield hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 67.7 points per game. However, it's not like Indian Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Loyola Blakefield was able to grind out a solid win over the Eagles in their previous meeting back in December of 2016, winning 50-40. Will Loyola Blakefield repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
