Baseball Recap: Coronado Takes Down Midland in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Coronado had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Midland Bulldogs. Eight seems to be a good number for the Thunderbirds as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jaxon Baptist tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Anthony Rivas, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Ryan Salcedo was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Coronado has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Midland, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 22-9.

As of now, neither Coronado nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
