Football Recap: Progreso Comes Up Short

Progreso had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it seven. They were dealt a 76-0 loss at the hands of the Raymondville Bearkats. The Red Ants lost against the Bearkats in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 54-0 score last time.

As for Raymondville, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Traeshaun Washington continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 203 yards and four scores on only eight carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. Jose Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.

Progreso and Raymondville will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Red Ants see the field they'll take on San Diego at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Raymondville, their break will end when they face Lyford at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
