Recap: Riverbend Bears vs. Brooke Point Black Hawks
The Riverbend Bears were handed a two-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Brooke Point Black Hawks on Friday. Riverbend put the hurt on Brooke Point with a sharp 69-43 victory. Given Riverbend's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Brooke Point is ranked 360th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hannah Alexander continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Charlotte Mullinax was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five assists and two steals.
Several Black Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chloe Williams, who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rinyah Jarrett, who scored ten points.
Riverbend's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points per game. As for Brooke Point, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverbend will take on Massaponax at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Massaponax is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Brooke Point, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Stafford at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
