Basketball Recap: Evergreen's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Evergreen entered their matchup against Standley Lake on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Evergreen Cougars took a 50-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Standley Lake Gators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 52-50 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Evergreen lost, don't look at Rob Beldock. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. With that strong performance, Beldock is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lukas Mccanna, who went 5 for 9 en route to 10 points and six boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Standley Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Titus Schrecengost, who posted 13 points and six steals. Schrecengost has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times he's played. Carson Dowis was another key player, putting up 11 points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Evergreen's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-5. As for Standley Lake, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.

Evergreen will look to defend their home court on Friday against Dakota Ridge at 7:00 p.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Ethan Berninger and Beldock. As for Standley Lake, they will head out on the road to challenge Conifer at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Standley Lake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season.
