Baseball Recap: Edon Gets the Win

Edon's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Pettisville Blackbirds 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bombers have posted since April 15th.

Christian Owens made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Edon is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-7 otherwise. Owens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Edon let Braedyn Wehrle and Kyler Sapp run wild. Wehrle went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Sapp went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases. Wehrle has become a key player for Edon: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Steinke, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Edon's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Pettisville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edon will take on Paulding at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pettisville, they will venture away from home to challenge Wauseon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
