Softball Recap: Grand County Falls Short of Duchesne in the Playoffs

Grand County and Duchesne squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Grand County had to settle for second. They fell 7-3 to the Eagles. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

CHLOE Byrd was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Byrd was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Byrd wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kemree Wells, who went 3-for-4 with one run.

Grand County's loss dropped their record down to 17-9. As for Duchesne, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season.

Grand County will square off against Panguitch at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 12.8 runs per game this season. As for Duchesne, they will take on Beaver at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Beavers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
