North Callaway had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Kirksville Tigers. This was payback for the Thunderbirds, who suffered a 7-2 loss the last time these two teams met.
Chance Green looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Cody Kemp was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. CJ Cunningham was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Kirksville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
North Callaway wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-0 victory against South Callaway on the 22nd. As for Kirksville, they will welcome Schuyler County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
