After both having extra time off, the Vista del Lago Eagles and the Woodcreek Timberwolves will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
The scorekeeper got an easy start last Wednesday as neither Vista del Lago nor Inderkum made it on the board until the seventh inning. The Eagles fell 4-1 to the Tigers. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Vista del Lago saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Huber, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodcreek). They put the hurt on Christian Brothers with a sharp 16-2 win last Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Maryn Macneil made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camryn Kelley, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Nicole Fonti, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Woodcreek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .441. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Christian Brothers only posted a batting average of .100.
The victory (which was Woodcreek's fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Vista del Lago, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Vista del Lago came up short against Woodcreek when the teams last played back in March, falling 5-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
