Baseball Recap: Mater Lakes Academy Triumphs

Mater Lakes Academy's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Miami Beach Hi-Tides 8-7. That's more bragging rights for the Bears, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Mater Lakes Academy got a great performance from Kenny Bencosme as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched.

At the plate, Joshua Garcia was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. SEBASTIAN CASTILLO was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Mater Lakes Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miami Beach struck out seven times.

Mater Lakes Academy now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Miami Beach, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mater Lakes Academy will square off against Calvary Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Miami Beach, they will take on Brito at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
